People who got rich off bitcoin, what is your story? [Serious]

Would you feel a little sheepish if you got rich off bitcoin?

I keep seeing posts like "Your great grandkids will remember you are the first one in the family tree to own a full bitcoin"
I just can't comprehend ... I remember my grandfather as being a WWII vet. My father was a hitchhiking hippie for 5 hears during the free love era. I'm in Thailand for six months and have an assload of stuff to do before I die.
I'd love to get rich off bitcoin. But I'd feel a little sheepish if I did ... Not something for my grandkids to remember me by. What am I missing? Is it like inverted narcissism? Dreaming of being remembered for something you bought that is worth a lot of money now? Does no one realize their grandkids won't give a shit no matter how much it's worth? And how pathetic it is that their identity is tied to dreams of grandour for buying part of the blockchain? It doesn't matter if bitcoin is legit or not ... This is like hearing the weird uncle talk about moon real estate except sadder because their entire identity is wrapped up in something they contribute nothing to.
Even if they all strike it rich and become our overlords. Their lives are gonna be so lame I'd STILL rather be a pauper who contributes something and had dreams beyond of accomplishment outside of owning my piece of a new global currency...
Lamest overlords ever.

READ THIS NOW: My life of SHOULD'VE, WOULD'VE, COULD'VE until I discovered Crypto.

Mostly all here are invested into Crypto. We all have our own reasons, methods, values of how we invest our money. One thing in common is we all have one main goal. That is to get as much money as possible out of this with the time, and money we can spare.

That's the dam truth##.

We are all here together, and since we are all here on our own will , I want to tell you why you should be proud to hold all your crypto.
I'm 40 years old. At 18 after I graduated HS I had about $7800. $1400 from my graduation party, and $6400 selling my MTG collection on EBay. I also managed a small arcade for about $350 a week.
Back to my MTG collection...
I sold it because it changed. The designs on the new series looked too modern. The original designs were a work of art.
Anyway, I seriously wanted to hold those magic cards but I kept telling myself...
"I can get them back if I want. The price isn't going to move anytime soon. The market is in slight decline. Some of these have been the same price for 2 years now."
I was right, the price of my two Lotus's stayed the same for 5 more years. Not budging . 12 years later after that , those same two cards value at over $60,000ea I believe. If I held untill a few years ago or now, I would've been able to do a quick sale at $400,000. Yes at a discount.
The same goes for all the first edition garbage pail kids I had.

So, what did I do with all $7800##?

I told myself I want to invest it into Microsoft. But I talked myself out of it by saying
"Some people told me the market was a risk, and I had to prepare myself to lose it all"
So I didn't do it. I was close, but I didn't. I could've had OVER A MILLION!
I instead used that money for a school. Business computer programming. It was a waste because 90% of what they taught me came natural. I was doing basic programming at 13 for fun.
I regret not going with my initial FOMO on Microsoft , I regret listening to my own FUD with the MTG cards.
7 years later, I repeated the same mistake...
I had about $15,000 in the bank. I wanted to invest $10,000 in apple after I read about the release of the iphone. Instead opted to do 5k over FUD I read. It was FUD about the risk since they never made phones, and alot of people were ridiculing their idea.
Then I said to myself...
"Fuck that, I don't want to do this. I could do so much more with this 5k"
I instead used the 15k turbocharge my transam, add a racing transmission, tires, rims, new stero system, and I took a 2 week vacation ...GONE!
I got what I wanted. Got laid a bunch of times, went to car shows. That could of been $500k by now.
To top this off, I missed out on a quick $78,000 win at the racetrack because if my own FUD. Horses.
I lost $200, and was left with only I $5 that night. I decided, "you know what, fuck it, I'm going to do a completely off the wall wild bet.
I did a completely wild bet for $5. I picked all longshots in what they call a "Superfecta"(4 horses in that exact order 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th place prediction.
1 minute before the race started, I Cancelled the bet. I told myself ...
"this is stupid, 99:1, 78:1, 56:1, 38:1 long shots coming out in this order? THATS INSANE...Why am I blowing 5 away? Fuck that, I instead put $5 on the 10:1 to win hopefully my to maybe get $50 back "
Well. Guess what? The 3nd largest superfecta payout in history. No body won it! It came out in the original order I out it in that's to a series of freak disqualifications in the race.
I hate myself for cancelling that. But hey, maybe that happened for a reason. Maybe I wouldn't have ended up living on another country for 2 years. Learning another language.
You see
So many times in my life I had the perfect opportunity, and I didn't take it. I let Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt make my Choices for me.
Then came crypto currency. In late 2016, a client of mine told me he got rich off Bitcoin. He raved about it . He told me about ripple, ETH etc.
I invested in his recommendation about XRP when it was $0.005. it FLEW UP from there. I took some of that massive gain and bought other things, and those FLEW. For someone like me, it was LOTS of money off my original $500.
Sure this was a "lucky time" to get in but that's not the point I'm trying to make here. The point is that I finally did it! I didn't let FUD fuck with my head. I just did it. I cashed out already in late 2017. About 90% of what I gained. Payed off all my debt, and my truck, and had another $30k or so to put a down payment on a house. If I didn't just stick with my guns and let the FUD get to me, then I would still be in a whole bunch of debt. Especially with this whole lockdown bullshit. But now....
NOW ,I never again I will tell myself...
"IF ONLY I DID THAT WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE"
NOW I NEVER HAVE TO SAY THAT AGAIN! I DONT GIVE A SHIT IF IT TANKS ANOTHER 50% FROM HERE because it's all house money. I NOW NEVER HAVE TO SAY ...
"IF ONLY I DID IT"
NOW I DID!
Crypto Currency is severely undervalued. Its manipulated down right now. This about this logic, how can something increasingly popular with more and more support by the day drop in price? Crypto isn't human. Bitcoin isnt getting fired over sexual harrassement, there isn't a corporate takeover. Its manipulation.
I don't care if this shit takes 5 years to recover. I'm holding . I don't care if BTC dips to $1000. I'm holding till this MCAP tops 10 trillion. so if you love your crypto, hold that F#%KING SHIT!
The lesson here is never let FUD make choices for you. Stick to your original beliefs. If there's a voice in the back of your head telling you "I want to do this", then Listen to that voice. That's you! Listen to yourself, not the new voice that intrudes after your choice.

Bitcoin (what does the future hold?)

With all the hype and euphoria gone, where do you think bitcoins will go moving forward? Personally I think it could continue be very volatile but more so on the downside then up. I think the people who got rich off Bitcoin have already left the party and people who want to get rich from this will be disappointed. Just my thoughts personally. Curious to hear what others have to say!

The best advice I can give to deal with market dips

- Remember why you came into this in the first place
Usually you started off with the idea of a long term hold. < - Stick with that plan.
Everyone who got rich off BitCoins who didn't buy in at .003 went through a constant roller coaster of market highs, and market crashes.
These people didn't pull out for a loss. They held. Unless you decided to put all your money down on shit/scam coins (Jesus coin, Devor coin etc) , just hold tight.
- Dont let others opinions make choices for you
You believed in the project. Stick to your own beliefs . The mt gox trustees making a huge sell off crashing the price was simply unfair, a small group to people shouldnt determine the true market value . Its a sad that every crypto is tied to bitcoin. Its sad but true. For now
- if you can't handle dips, don't check prices every minute of every day
Store your coins safely, go out and live your life. Come back 6 months later, and then check the price. If youre not happy, come back 6 months later. Remember it took 2 years for BTC to recover to a new ATH after Mt Gox crashed . its possible it could take that long again, but in this crypto space, you really never know when your crypto is going to the moon. The charts can only tell you short term trends. They can't predict long term trends. If they could, then we would all be millionaires.
- you're already at a loss
The best thing thats gonna happen to you if you cash out is having less money than you started off with.
NOW. If you invested a lot more than you could afford to lose, then let this be a valuable lesson. Never invest more than you could afford to lose.
At the time of my first crypto investment. I put in $500. It was less than a weeks pay for me. I couldnt put in more because I had to save for a wedding. I stuck by that rule. That was the responsible thing for me to do, and that's one reason why credit card companies don't want you gambling on credit. They know people are irresponsible , and they dont want to get Rekt. They know you wont be able to pay them back.
Thankfully , I learned my lesson to not put down more than I could afford the hard way before crypto was invented. Betting away 2 months of hard savings at a casino when I was 22. I didnt stop there. Multiple instances in my life I spent too much on scratch off tickets. I was thick headed. I'm much older now, and a lot wiser in controlling my habits.
Trust me, its not worth it putting in more than you can handle to lose. If you took out a second mortgage for crypto, then you need to seek professional help. <-- 1 800 gambler, this is not a joke.

What Investors can learn from World Cup Goalies

"Inactivity isn't a spectator sport, but we believe it remains the optimal strategy"
https://www.oakmark.com/News/The-World-Cup-and-Investing.htm
Thought this article was exceedingly interesting and topical! A summary and my thoughts below:
For anyone who has been watching the World Cup (I'll be the first to admit that I only watch when it also comes with free alcohol and time off work), you may have noticed that during penalty kicks the goalies typically dive either left or right. However, studies show that this isn't the best strategy:
- Goalies who dive to the right stop the ball 12.6% of the time
- Goalies who dive to the left stop the ball 14.2% of the time
- Goalies who don't move stop the ball 33% of the time
Despite this, goalies typically don't choose to stay in the center (only 6% of the time do they not dive to either side) even though it is statistically the best decision (the study was done by the Journal of Economic Psychology- you can see the references in the actual article).
Article author Win Murray suggests that this might be because of behavioral biases. It feels better for a goalie to have missed a ball as a result of action versus inaction.
Psychologically, I can understand that. If you dive, even if it is less likely you'll stop the ball, at least you did something. How awkward would it be if they kick the ball right and you're just standing there, still in the middle?
The same can be said for investor psychology (except at least the whole world isn't watching your investment decisions).
Inactivity ("buy and hold" investing) versus Activity (market timing, panicking, or short-term investing) typically wins out over the long-run, however, it can be exceedingly difficult to avoid. Information is now more readily available than ever before, and the hold period for people (whether it be individual stocks, mutual funds, or ETFs) has fallen drastically to 8 months! Y'all, that's some serious tax burden even if they manage to make money. It was an average of 2 years in the 1980s.
Anecdotally, I feel like I see this psychological effect of activity vs inactivity all the time in my job. Currently, people are freaking out over the "impending market crash" or (earlier this year) investing in cryptocurrencies. People feel like it is worse to lose out because of inactivity than it is to lose out because of activity. It is hard to sit on the sidelines while being bombarded with floods of information about how interest rates are rising and your financial world is about to be ruined or how these teenagers got rich off bitcoin. You think "I have to do something!" even though, logically, you know your best opportunity to perform well is just to do nothing.
I think this effect can also be reflected in some of the personalfinance budgets and holdings that are posted. Many people have small, random, holdings (either in a brokerage, like Robinhood, or in cryptoassets) that seem out-of-place with their priorities or what they can afford. This is not to say that having a Robinhood account or Bitcoin holdings is inherently bad (on the contrary, I am one of the few people on this subreddit that thinks there are places for individual holdings in some peoples portfolios) but understanding the psychology of why you have these assets is important. For a lot of people I suspect- although I obviously cannot know for sure- that it is because they felt pressure from their friends or the media to get into some new and exciting thing, even though they possibly knew it was not the best financial decision. For them, they preferred action over inaction. They preferred to dive over stand still.

BitcoineXpres - One of my favorite characters but somewhat elusive. He shows up every once in awhile to destroy coins (He blew up Auracoin, almost blew up Monero, tried to blow up litecoin). Rumored to have more hashpower than God. It's impossible for what I've seen to simply be a botnet (I think). Only thing I figure is he is in some corner of the world with 10,000 GPU's.
I know that would be crazy for a normal person but BCX is not a normal person. Got rich off bitcoin rise and then the litecoin rise.
